Diamond-like Carbon (DLC) is a metastable amorphous material. Its mechanical, electrical, optical and tribological properties are similar to Diamond. Its thermal conductivity is 2-3 times than copper. It is characterized by high transparency, good chemical stability, top hardness, best antifraying, excellent chemical inertia, low dielectric constant, wide optical bandgap and good biocompatibility. DLC film represents the insulating amorphous carbon film with hardness up to 20% of natural diamond.

Feature

DLC film owns the feature of high hardness and elastic modulus, and the hardness of DLC films prepared by different deposition methods is huge different. In particular, DLC thin films prepared by laser sputtering or magnetic filtration cathode arc, its hardness is up to 70-110Gpa, which is similar to diamond. The proportion of sp3/sp2 and hydrogen content are different due to different preparation methods or deposition process parameters and components, which also affect the mechanical properties of the film.
